B. Warm-Ups (3 A/M)
I will put the kids into groups by counting out numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. All “ones” will go sit in their location in the gym, twos go and do the same, etc. I will give them a sheet to put their groups’ names on.
C. Introduction/Demonstration (M 6-7)
(After students are in groups, I will begin)
Today we are going to design and create a haunted walk-through, with the materials behind me. We must all work together and each of us will contribute to the end product.
I will demonstrate by building the entrance of the walk-through, standing up the mats and hanging multiple jump ropes over the top of the entrance. You will be asked to complete a section of the path. You will all have a chance to go through, but if you are not going through, you must still work in the maze holding, moving, or managing props. One person is going to be blind-folded and the other one will be led them through the maze. When they finish the other group members will get a chance to go through.
New lesson:
- “Today we are working on team work and your imagination.
- But first we need to talk about safety in the maze.”
- 1. Nothing can fall off of anything.
- 2. Nothing can hit or touch a person as they are going through.
- 3. You cannot swing or push anything or anyone.
- 4. You cannot build something that someone can fall off of.
D. Challenges for class cues. (5 I/A)
- 1. Team work (working together in groups)
- 2. Construction (if it holds up)
- 3. Creative (good, interesting, excellent)
As the students are attempting the activity, I will go around instructing and giving input. Also, I will be filling out my cue sheet that they all signed in the warm-up. (I will put a check in the square where they accomplished their cues.
E. Game I (I/M/A 20)
Building the section of the mazes
F. Game II
Walking through the haunted maze and working different stations.
G. Closure (2 I/M)
Say, “I’m very happy with the way you performed for me today. I saw a lot of you working together and understanding the cues. All of you did a great job in designing the maze in safe ways.”
IV. Did the class do as I asked of them?
- Did they work in a safe manner?
- Did approximately 80% work together?
- Did approximately 80% at least try the activity?
- Did they follow the cues?
