In Keyboarding practice, we use a game I call “Word Association” quite a bit…

Using a word processor, we’ll discuss keyboarding technique and posture, and then I’ll call out a question or a phrase, one right after the other. The assignment isn’t to call out their answer but to type it. For an example… “macaroni and ______”, “8 x 2 = ______” (Making sure they type out the word, and not use the number.)

There are lots of variations to this idea… I list on items on the chalkboard…. 10 Presidents, 10 Colors, 10 States, 10 Cities, etc. The students then have to type, silently, 10 Presidents, etc. This particular variation really helps when several students have completed their lesson for the period, and are wondering “what to do?”
