Primary Subject – Language Arts
Grade Level – 3
Introduction:
- Here are two useful Christmas vocabulary worksheets
Learning Objective(s):
- Students will learn how to spell vocabulary words, learn the definition, changing the word to plural/singular, add -ing if necessary.
List of Materials Needed:
- Spelling List
- Worksheet for Plural/Singular
- Vocabulary Test
Pre-Activity Preparation:
- Show an example of what we are doing on the worksheet and review the vocabulary words.
Transition:
- Students should be in their individual desks and focused on the projector.
Procedure:
- Step 1) Motivation/Introduction: Ask the students, “What special holiday is coming up?”
(The answer will obviously be Christmas.)
- Then ask,”What are some words to describe Christmas?
- Step 2) Give the students a list of their vocabulary words.
- Step 3) Then give them a worksheet so they can write their own definitions of the words.
- Step 4) As a class, go over what each vocabulary word means and have the students use their red pens to write down the correct definition. As a class, also talk about why the definitions are right/wrong.
- Step 5) Then hand out a plural/singular worksheet and show #1 as an example.
(They should know what to do, if not, that is what the example is for.)
- Step 6) Closure: Go over the vocabulary words again. The students will also review the words on their own time. At the end of the week, give the class a spelling test. (
You say the words aloud and they write them down.
