LESSON PLAN ONE
LESSON TYPE: TEACHER-LED
LESSON TIME: One class period

OBJECTIVES:
1. The student will be introduced to the phonograms in, ick, and ing.
2. The student will demonstrate his or her understanding of phonograms by creating additional words with the same rime (for instance- fin, stick, and ring).

MATERIALS:
Large chart paper, index cards, marker, writing paper, sentence strips with words using the phonograms in, ick, and ing.

PROCEDURES:
1. Place sheet of chart paper on the board that has been divided into three columns and distribute to student’s paper with same information.
2. Using the following key words on index cards (fin, stick, ring) the teacher should verbally sound out the phonemes, (S-T-I-CK, F-IN, R-I-N-G). The teacher will place index cards in the top of the columns.
3. The students will then follow with the teacher as he sounds out the phonemes.
4. Students should generate a list of words for each phonogram on their own paper.
5. The teacher will place three sentence strips on the board to model writing a sentence using the students’ generated words.
6. The students will read the sentences along with the teacher.
7. To check for understanding the teacher will ask volunteers to read the phonogram sentences.
8. For practice the students will complete a bonus word bank with words that contain the phonogram learned.
9. The teacher will then add learned phonograms to word wall for future use.

EVALUATION:
Students will be evaluated on their participation and phonogram paper they will hand in along with the bonus word bank.
