This idea is called “Measure It” and involves classroom objects
Title – Measure It!!

A list of items to measure in the room.
Ask your students to get a partner. Then give each group of two a ruler. They will take turns measuring the items on their list together!! On the list some items that could be used are:
-A pencil not used yet.
-3 erasers put in a line.
-The door from the doorknob down to the floor.
-The top of their desk from one side to the other.
-Your book bag
To learn to use a ruler and measure by inches or cm. To work as a team. To be able to record lengths on a piece of paper. To make a chart that shows their results.
After they have measured all they items have them put them on a graph from shortest to tallest. The side of the graph should be in inches and they should decide how to so the graph. They could do by every 2 inches or 4 inches. Depending on the tallest item they measured and the length of the paper they are using.
After they are done with their graph have them display it and talk about it!
Have some of the items measured in centimeters and others in inches. Have them compare the differences in inches and centimeters and how to convert back and forth from centimeters to in inches and inches to centimeters!
