Folk Music and it’s organizations.

Concentrate on learning more about the folk music composers in Early American History.

Patriotic Music is our first one. Take Light blue construction paper. On the back put a Clip art of something that reminds one of the Song title. Use, “America”, “Rally round the Flag”, “Star Spangled Banner”, “Your a grand ole Flag”, “We’re tenting tonight on the old campground”, “Yankee Doodle Dandy”, and “Caissons go rolling along”. In bold print put the name of the song on the other side. Use the picture side to remind the children of the song on the other side. Sing the songs through and tell a bit about their origin. Take the papers and put them in a hat. Have a child draw them out and without showing the class, have the child act out the song and the class guess which song.

Continuing with the education of Folk Music, use different colors of construction paper for different forms of music.

For example, yellow paper for Spirituals and Slavery Music,

Dark Blue for Southern Folk Music such as Stephen Foster, Dan Emmitt. Green for Western/Cowboy Music such as Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Orange for Fun or Silly folk music, Red for contemporary or protest songs of the 60′s and 70′s.
