Subject: Identifying the four voice types: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass

Materials: CD Player (or any other audio playing device) CDs representative of each voice type. Ex. Kathleen Battle-soprano, Cecilia Bartoli-mezzo-soprano, Luciano Pavarotti-tenor, Samuel Ramey-Bass

Describe each of the four voice types to the students:
Soprano-the highest female voice
alto (mezzo-soprano) medium female voice
tenor-high male voice
bass-lowest male voice

Play recordings of the voice types in order. Then mix the order up of which you play the examples and then have the students to aurally identify the voice types.
