This idea uses several twister games to teach notes or rhythm patterns

Title – Note Twister
By – Susan Hinkle
Primary Subject – Music
Grade Level – 1-5

I bought several twister games. I drew quarter notes, eighth notes, half notes, and whole notes; one on each circle. I drew four of each. I did not follow the color patterns. I mixed up the position of the notes to prevent the students from remembering that quarter notes were “green”.

I made call cards on index cards such as “Right hand-whole note” or “Left foot-quarter note”…

For a variation you could call “Left hand — two counts” or “Right foot — 1 count”.

You could also draw simple rhythm patterns on each circle.

I have been doing this for 30 years and the students still enjoy it.
