TITLE: Texture in Music and Mathematics

Grade LEVEL: 2

INTEGRATED CONTENT Area Mathematics

CONCEPT: The students will listen to a book and learn about grouping names in mathematics. after listening to a song the students will discuss texture and its relationship to mathematics.

OBJECTIVES

students will listen to book and identify numbers 1 – 10 and group names

students will discuss the difference between numbers in groups

students will listen to music to hear example of texture

class mill discuss definition of texture

students will relate math to texture by grouping musical instruments

PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE:

Teacher will remind students about lesson on texture in music.

PROCEDURE:

Teacher will review previous music lesson on texture.

Teacher will read Zin. Zin. Zin! a Violin by Lloyd Moss

discuss with class the concepts of 1 – 10 and the relationship grouping

ask the students to think about the book and listen to recording and to think about the book and how many instruments are playing

discuss the texture of the music and group numbers

revisit math concept with class activity of listening to recording and

holding up instruments and naming groups

finish with evaluation by matching instruments and group names

EVALUATION:

The evaluation can be done throughout the lesson:

When students listen to recording and hold up instruments

When students do group naming at the end of the lesson

FOLLOW UP:

Have students draw the musical instruments or any other object and label

group names.
