Primary Subject – Social Studies
Grade Level – 1-6
On Fat Tuesday ( day before lent ) our school makes masks and dresses up “Mardi Gras” style with plenty of purple, green, and gold decorations. The last part of the day we have a parade. The parade usually starts with the 8th grade and goes through the school picking up all the other grades chronologically. We sing “When the Saints go Marching In” and end up in the cafeteria. While going through the school, we shake shakers and blow horns. We end the day eating King Cake (There are recipes for King Cake on the internet, but you can just use cake made from the cafeteria or bought from the local bakery, especially if it has purple, green, and gold sprinkles.) . The kids love this tradition and look forward to it every year.
