Title – Taking Care of Your Teeth

Focus Questions: How do we take care of our teeth and how do teeth grow?
Outcomes: Students will 1) identify the name of each tooth, 2) tell how teeth grow, and 3) demonstrate how to keep teeth healthy.
Primary sources: Toothpaste, sample toothbrushes and a chart with the names of the teeth.
Instruction: Point and repeat the names of the teeth on the chart.
Have a student demonstrate the proper way to brush using the sample toothbrushes.
Discuss different foods that can damage teeth.
Activities: Students can build models of teeth out of clay or play-doh.
2) Students can pair up and draw each other’s teeth.
3) Hand out crossword puzzles dealing with dental hygiene vocabulary.
Independent work: Assign two page reports of different animals and their use of teeth.
Example:Why are teeth important for horses, dogs, monkeys etc.? What kind of food do they eat?
