Songs in the Key of Art
Title – Songs in the Key of Art
By – Greg Percy
Letter from Greg:
-
I was trying to teach my "kinders" about the primary colors, but this
-
I wore red, yellow and blue clothes; we used red,
yellow and blue materials; we talked about red, yellow and
blue things. -
At the end of the day, I asked "Can anyone
share the primary colors with me?"
The answers: "
Pink… ah,
orange… ah, green
," etc. -
I was dumbfounded – so I headed home and pulled out my
guitar and wrote a little ditty called:
The Red and
Yellow Blues
. -
We did all of the things from Day One and we finished
the day with my song. -
Unfortunately, most of the responses were still
similar to the day before (doh!). -
A simple change – I made the song a "call and
response" or "echo" song where the kids
had to sing the words back after I sang them. - Mission accomplished!
-
I still have high school kids come to see me that
remember that "Red Yellow Blues" song. -
It inspired me to record my music and the "Songs
in the Key of Art" series was born. - 5 CDs and a DVD later, it’s still going strong.
-
All the CDs feature fun, humorous music about
artists and art for kids.
The live shows are a blast
to do too.
one particular group was having great difficulties.
