Lesson Plan Title: Remember the Titans
Concept / Topic To Teach: Civil Rights movement in the 50-60’s
General Goal(s): To teach students why the civil right movement was so important, and the reaction of southern people
- Disney Channel-
Remember the Titans
Anticipatory Set (Lead-In): Talk about the problems of integrating the school systems of the South. Also talk about racism, Brown vs. Little Rock Board of Education.
Plan For Independent Practice:
- Have students get out white line paper, and pencil. Tell them to watch the movie with a close eye. When Kyra comes on from the Proud family and asks a question, have the student answer that question during the commercial. Have the students do this everytime Kyra comes up and asks a question. This should take 2 to 3 days.
Closure (Reflect Anticipatory Set):
- Discuss the answers from each question after the movie is over. Discuss the outcomes of the Civil Rights Movement and are civil rights still being used today in the way they were meant to be used.
Assessment Based On Objectives:
- Grade their papers, Students will get a 100 if each question is answered. Take 10 points off each time a question was not answer.
