Alaska Unit
Materials:
The book “Mama Do You Love Me?”
paper
markers
poster board

Procedure:
Read the story “Mama Do You Love Me?” and talk about the story with the children. Ask them if they have ever seen a musk Ox? Ask them if they have ever seen a moose? What kind of animals did the book also talk about? Ermine and whales and some others. Does anyone remember what mukluks were? They are the boots that Eskimos use. That is what they call them. What type of Eskimo is talked about in the book?? Inuits.

Discussion:
Can you think of other animals that might live in very cold areas? Other animals that live in Alaska? How about looking Alaska and Alaskan animals up on the internet?? What did you find?

Lets make a list of all the animals we found out that live in Alaska…
Procedure:
List all the animals on the poster board and hang it up in the room.
Activity:
Let the children pick their favorite Alaskan animal and use markers to make a picture of it. Also have them talk about their favorite part of the book that you read together. Ask them if their mom or dad has ever gotten mad at them for anything? But do their parents still love them? YES!!

HAVE FUN!!
